Airway and Breathing Emergencies

Definition:

As the name implies a breathing emergency is a situation where someone is having trouble breathing. Some of the things that can cause this can include; hyperventilation, asthma, allergeis, choking, emphysema, bronchitis, and chest injuries.

Causes:

The cause is related to which condition is causing the problem. But it usually involves some kind of trauma to the airway or the lungs.

Recognition:

Any kind of wheezing, persistent couching, cyanotic or pale skin, gasping for air, hives around the throat, are all indications that someone is having a breathing emergency.Treatment:

Again, the treatment will depend on the cause. So as a first aider you need to determine the source of the problem.
